This carbon block water filter (housing unit sold separately) effectively filters municipal water, producing healthier, better-tasting drinking water.
The filter easily installs in the unit, which sits beside the sink and attaches directly to a kitchen faucet using a diverter valve. You can easily switch between unfiltered and filtered water directly.
Once your filter expires, please don't place it in your garbage bin. Take it to the closest waste drop-off station! You can find this at www.makethedrop.ca
Why should you treat your water supply?
All water supplies have certain levels of chemical contaminants (e.g. DBCP, EDB, TCE, PCE, THM) and other organic chemicals. Solids such as dirt, rush and lime may also be present, as well as dissolved solids such as calcium, iron and copper. Water quality can vary greatly according to location, water source, time of year, construction within the vicinity, road construction in the area, water main work in the area, fire department testing hydrants and changing municipal water treatment practices.
A properly designed water system can help to greatly reduce contaminants. The compressed carbon filter that fits in this unit is rated for 0.5 microns (a red blood cell is 6-8 microns) and does the following:
Micron ratings based on 85% or greater removal of given particle size.
How often should you replace the filter? This depends on your water quality and water use, but estimates range between 6 and 12 months. Your decision should be based on your own water quality and a personal estimate of filter usage.
Cartridges will contain a very small amount of carbon fines (very fine black powder) and a new cartridge after installation should be flushed with sufficient water to remove all traces of the fines from your water system before using the water. Each time you use your filtered water tap for drinking or cooking purposes it is recommended that you run (flush) the tap for at least 10 seconds prior to using water.
Warning: Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.
