Organic: Produced in whole or in part with third-party certified organic ingredients. The organic cotton cover for this pillow has been certified by Europe's oldest and most prestigious certification agency, KRAV of Sweden. The organic cotton used in Grassroots' bedding products is handpicked in the Canete and Chincha Valleys in the Peruvian Andes. The land is farmed by small, local farmers in a co-op. It is grown organically without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides or defoliants. The area has always been organic due to the high cost and lack of availability of chemical inputs. Handpicking ensures that it is the cleanest, purest, most resilient cotton fiber available, allowing the cotton seeds to stay with plant and not contaminate the picked cotton.

Ethically Made: Adheres to one or more commonly held fair trade principles (though not certified): fair wages, safe and healthy conditions, equal employment opportunities and financial and technical assistance to producers. KRAV of Sweden has certified the cotton for this pillow. Their stamp of approval is a guarantee that social rights are observed in the product of cotton, which takes place in the Peruvian Andes.. The co-op farms from which the cotton comes is fair trade (though not third party certified), with the small farmers enjoying increased financial security.

Forest Friendly: Responsible choice for forests and those who rely on them. The rubber is manufactured where the trees' milk is harvested, helping to sustain the local economy. Jobs are created without depleting the natural resources of the country -- a kindness to ourselves and the planet.

Natural: Made with non-toxic ingredients safe for your health and for the environment. No herbicides are used in the rubber tree operation. The Hevea milk is processed close to the Malaysian rubber tree plantations because the raw product destabilizes when kept too long; other manufacturers avoid the problem by adding chemicals. Our rubber milk is harvested in the morning, molded into sheets by mid-afternoon and shipped shortly thereafter to Canada, to be made into your pillow.

This all-natural contour rubber pillow molds to the neck for superior comfort and provides excellent support for side sleepers. This pillow is made with shredded rubber, it is fully customizable to suit your needs.

Why Rubber? Natural rubber is hypoallergenic, absorbent and resilient, and known for its excellent heat and moisture regulation. The rubber is harvested by tapping the milk of the common rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis), which contains an antibacterial substance that acts as a natural dust-mite repellent. I love my new pillow, the contouring is perfect for sleeping on my side or back and the materials used for the cover are incredible. You can tell it is well made and a lot of care goes into the production of it. I plan on purchasing one for my Mother for Christmas. Was this review helpful to you?
